Thank you to APTN InFocus and host Darrell Stranger for having me on their episode that highlighted the importance of Indigenous youth organizing. I was one of 4 folks interviewed for this and was honoured to talk about the importance of language, We Need Everyone and what I mean when I say revolution!

Many folks like to trash 2022 for the many struggles and difficulties that came with it, but looking back, I had tons of fun! I learned plenty and it makes me even more excited for what's coming next! Whether it was a first time experience for me, or continuing to do something I love, here are 9 Highlights From 2022:

If I could tell the city how to spend $790,000 on Indigenous Relations here is where I would want it spent…. Thank you to the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives Manitoba and the Social Planning Council of Winnipeg for your leadership in bringing this year’s alternative municipal budget together!

The smartest people have responded in pandemic specific ways and I am honoured to know so many and to do what I can to help. I have learned how to be a pandemic public speaker and other organizers and organizations have enhanced programs and systems to be pandemic proof.

Once a year Selkirk Avenue gets fancy and celebrates the holidays in style. This year, Indigenous Vision for the North End partnered with sahikiwe festival for some awesomeness that brought out the neighbourhood and provided opportunity for community, and connection.

Read this report and then help me get to work, collaborating and strongly encouraging the City of Winnipeg to take a leadership position on ending poverty in Winnipeg. I want to make a city and community where everyone around me has a good life, is safe and healthy.

Everyday, aunties, cousins and relatives from every corner of our community are achieving, overcoming and winning. But the positive accomplishments rarely make headlines. We all need to work hard to change this and I have some ideas that could possibly make it so!

I wrote this poem out of frustration, anger and sadness. Another mass grave was discovered and many people will talk about the tragedy. I continue to believe that if you want to do something productive, support and protect children today.
