Walk With Us: A Conversation With The Indigenous Health Committee
What we want to do as the Indigenous Health Committee is not only listen to the experiences of Indigenous peoples both as practitioners and as recipients of the healthcare system. We also want to work collaboratively with our partners, Indigenous and not, to identify well-researched and informed actions that we will be able to take that will provide some kind of tangible outcome that will improve education within organizations and health systems, but also increase the quality of service delivery in the future for our Indigenous relatives.
Manitoba unfortunately is one of the provinces that has some poor metrics when it comes to Indigenous health and we can look at things like child poverty, we can look at child welfare. One of the values within the Indigenous Health Committee is to listen to the wisdom within First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities. One of those values is the importance of taking quality care of our children. Every child in Manitoba is our child.
Our work of course relates to getting that education into those systems, but also asks each of us that are listening right now:
What actions can you do to improve the health and wellness of Indigenous children and families in the province of Manitoba?
