Hello! My name is Michael Redhead Champagne! Shamattawa First Nation is where I am from, North Winnipeg is where I live.
What is your name? Where do you live?
Are you interested in learning how to speak swampy cree (n-dialect)? I am excited to invite families and language learners of all levels to join us for Íninímotan Language Table @ St John’s Library, a free opportunity to listen to and learn how to talk Ininew in person with a community of supportive learners and speakers. This 10 week program happens on Saturdays from 10am to 12 noon at St John’s Library (500 Salter St), provides language resources, snacks, special guests and 1 field trip to the stars. No need to register, please just show up with your loved ones on Saturday October 4th at 10am and a graduation ceremony on December 13th!
Note: We also are aware this is the day of action for MMIWG2s+ and will be sharing information on additional events that people can be involved in that day.

I want to say a great big thank you to the community partners who have stepped up to help make this initiative a success!
St John’s Library - our home base, they have been amazing and welcomed us into their space. They also have the friendliest librarians, a special section for Indigenous resources and even Community Safety Hosts! Thank you to the library and the City of Winnipeg for their support of this program!
Zoongizi Ode Inc - thank you to this grandmother led organization that supports families in our community for helping to facilitate and handle the administration of our program
Colleen Omand - Language teacher and kookum who shares her special brand of child friendly knowledge with us including songs, helpful resources and connections to the land and stars. Check out her version of Baby Beluga in Ininew!
Indigenous Reconciliation (Government of Manitoba) - Thank you for your financial support that makes this possible
Indigenous Excellence (Government of Manitoba) - Thank you for your financial support that makes this possible
I remember the first couple of years I did this as a volunteer, the city of Winnipeg volunteered their space and community came together to help make our foundation together. Now we are in a place where we can honour the language speakers in a good way and increase the resources we share with community. This is now the 4th time we have done this and I cannot wait to see what we get to create together next!
See you all on October 4th!
