Bored? Board!
Are you feeling bored? Join a non profit board!
Join your facilitator Michael Redhead Champagne for a special event called Bored? Board! Utilizing his experience with community boards over the past 2 decades, information on how boards operate will be presented. But wait, there’s more! We will also be providing opportunities to join some local organizations as members or even apply to be on a real board of directors
Topics include:
Memberships: The people the organization serves, they can vote at AGMs and often can run to be on the board
Bylaws: These are the rules and policies that govern the non-profit
Minutes: Every time there is aboard meeting, the notes that are kept are called “minutes” and they have to be organized in a very particular way
Financials: Financial statements (often audited) will need to be reviewed on an annual basis by the board so learning about liabilities, expenditures and more will be required
Sectors: Boards are often made up of different groups that they serve, individuals can represent themselves, organizations or larger groups
Roles - Every non profit board has a team of people who manage the affairs of the corporation, president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer
AGMs: Organizations must host an Annual General Meeting (AGM) with it’s members, share any updates to bylaws, provide an annual report and vote in a new board
Plus a Question & Answer Period
